Cheap Music

Right now you can buy Steel Train's recently released self titled album for only $3.99 over at Amazon! I have to admit, I'm not in love with this band. But I do really like this particular album. Specifically, I'm really into their songs Bullet and Turnpike Ghost.

J's Album Pick of the Week

Fixin to Thrill by Dragonette has probably been my favorite album to listen to all summer. I discovered it way back in April of this year and I haven't stopped listening since. You can go ahead and take a listen over at Amazon, where you can also conveniently purchase the entire album for only $5. Trust me, it's well worth it.

Fave tracks: Easy, Pick Up the Phone, Liar, Gone Too Far, Okay Dolores, and Big Sunglasses.

Also worth a listen: Their previous studio album Galore

Current Obsession: Mika

Mika, what to say about him? Over the past weekend I purchased both of his studio albums (yes, I still buy actual CDs). 2007's Life in Cartoon Motion is amazing. Highlights include: Grace Kelly, Lollipop, Love Today, Big Girl (You Are Beautiful), and Happy Ending. There is not one song from 2009's The Boy Who Knew Too Much that I don't love, but my absolute faves are Blame It On The Girls, We Are Golden, and Blue Eyes. You can watch videos for many of Mika's songs over at his VEVO page on Youtube (WTF is a VEVO? If anyone knows, please enlighten me). You can listen to some of his songs over at his myspace page, including a mashup of the entire Boy Who Knew Too Much album! Just in case you're wondering, my absolute favorite song of Mika's is Love Today. Maybe my Zune library tells me I've listened to it 98 times over the past three days. Maybe.

J's Summer List

Here are most of the songs I've been wearing out this summer. Some are popular/"mainstream", some are indie/popular, some are indie/obscure, some are oldies but goodies, some are new, some are rock-ish, some are pop-ish, some are danceable, some are sway worthy. All are fantastic. Shout out to Lauren for opening my eyes to As Tall As Lions!

Enjoy!

Current Obsession: Florence + the Machine

Both J and myself find ourselves enthralled by Florence+ the Machine. But, I can't find words to justify or describe the unique music by Florence Welch, who writes, produces, and performs all her own music. It may be best said in her own words; “I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree, or off a tall building, or as if you’re being sucked down into the ocean and you can’t breathe,” says Florence “It’s something overwhelming and all-encompassing that fills you up, and you’re either going to explode with it, or you’re just going to disappear." If you decide to give her music a go ( HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!) I suggest starting with the following mind blowing tracks: Cosmic Love, Dog Days are Over, You've Got The Love, Kiss With A Fist, and Rabbit Heart(Raise it Up).

Musical Cuts

A short and quirky list of songs I really like randomly relating to the word 'Knife' and all from some of my favorite bands! I put them into one list because I noticed how many there were one day, that is all ....here ya go!

Heavy Rotation: Crystalised

Today I can't keep my finger from hitting the repeat button when Crystalised by The xx pops up on my Zune. This song sort of has a haunting vibe to it, from the music to the lyrics to the vocals, it gave me chills the first time I heard it. It's mos def worth a good listen through, which you can do over at their myspace page. Blood Red Moon, Teardrops, and VCR are my other faves, but I really like each and every one of their songs. I would def recommend purchasing the entire XX album. Check out the video for Crystalised too if you feel so inclined (talk about haunting!).
